From the beginning of time, dogs have been considered "man's best friend". They are very loving and loyal to their owners. Oftentimes, dogs place their "humans" on a pedestal high above themselves. Many pet owners give gifts to their pets for the same occasions they would any other member of their family. For instance, they may give their dog anniversary or birthday presents. They may include them in family holidays, and may even shop for them on a daily basis. Many times non-pet owners, or those that are not as involved with their own pets, think of this type of person as fanatical or weird. It is something that all dog owners should do thought, as your dog may be the best friend you will ever have during its lifetime. Anyone that doesn't agree has to be a cat person, "GRRRRRRRRR".

Your dog won't care if his gift cost a thousand dollars, or two dollars, and he will not condemn you for not putting enough thought into the gift. What's great about shopping for your dog is that it really doesn't take much thought in picking gifts. By simply treating your dog equally, giving him something special, and loving him, you'll let him know that you truly appreciate him.

Picking Out the Right Toy for Your Dog
Dogs need something to play with and stimulate their minds just as your own children do. Good toys provide this much needed mental stimulation and physical exercise that is crucial to the development and health of your dog. There are countless varieties of dog toys. Some may be vinyl and resemble foods. Some are rubber, such as balls and squeaky toys. You will find fabric toys that resemble other animals. You may even get your dog a rawhide or rope chew toy. There are toys made for puppies, adult dogs, and even those that are advanced in their ages. If you are often away from the house, there are even electronic, interactive toys to keep your dog entertained. Always use some common sense when picking out a toy for your dog. You shouldn't get an old dog with no teeth a chew toy, just as you wouldn't get your four year old boy a girl's doll.

If you have a dog that chews objects often, like your favorite house shoes or the foot of your lazy chair, then a chew toy would be an ideal gift. Dogs chew when they are bored, so bringing a few toys home would be a great idea that will alleviate both of your frustrations.

It is easy to see that the options you have when picking out a toy are almost endless. Don't fall into the rut of simply buying your dog a new squeaky toy every time you get him a gift though. A Frisbee or tennis ball can be a great gift, as not only is the toy itself a gift, but the time you spend with your dog playing together can be invaluable.

Picking Healthy Treats for Your Dog
You don't have to wait for special occasions to buy your dog a healthy treat. The next time you go to the store, buy your dog a tasty bone or flavored snack. There are numerous healthy dog treats on the market that can benefit both of you, such as those treats specially made to freshen a dog's breath or clean his teeth.

Doggy Sports Jerseys
If you like rooting for your favorite sports team while wearing a special jersey, then why shouldn't your pet? There are NFL, NBA, NHL, and MLB jerseys available for your dog that may catch your eye, and even if you're not the type of person to dress your dog up, you may make exception when it comes to watching sports with your dog.

Blankets, Dog Beds and Cushions
As summer fades to fall, and the night air becomes a little cooler, you will probably cuddle up on the couch under a blanket to watch T.V. or read a book. As you look up from your book, you notice that your dog is curled up between the recliner and a coat you threw in the floor earlier. Just as you enjoy a nice throw blanket or soft bed, your dog would too. Consider buying your dog a dog bed or comfortable blanket to let him curl up on and sleep in warmth and comfort. Your dog is your best friend, partner in crime, confidant, defender and protector. He would go to the ends of the world for you without a thought. You are the one he looks up to, the one that loves him, cares for him, and his fearless leader. He will love you with every beat of his heart until his dying day. So, if you really love your dog, give him a gift that really says so.
